This position coordinates flight test activities among competing vendors across a wide spectrum of components.  The individual should possess the ability to understand unmanned aerial system architecture, design and subsystems integration and application of test and evaluation methodologies to demonstrate competitor technologies.

The selected candidate must have 10 years' direct hands on flight test experience and subject matter expertise (salary will be competitive, based on experience) in the following phases of test planning preparation, execution and reporting:

  • Maturity, professionalism, and leadership to support the briefing and execution of flight test missions while overseeing a multi-disciplined team consisting of Government and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) representatives.
  • Flight test planning and approval process to include: test plan development, flight test risk and hazard analysis, airworthiness approval (both FAA and DoD), current FAA rules and regulations related to UAS operations (both Part 107 and above 55 lbs), UAS Certificate of Waiver or Authorization process, Military Safety Review Boards and FAA Range Independent Safety Review Boards (ISRB), Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) policies and procedures.
  • Expertise required for the development test procedures, test cards, safety reviews, test plan working groups, and analysis of results.
  • Perform review of vehicle or demonstrator systems, sub-systems, and components to ensure comprehensive test documentation is created and proper data collection is addressed to appropriately measure and report on the stated test objectives.
  • Applies extensive technical expertise and guides the successful completion of major programs as a ground/flight Test Director responsible for all facets of range integration, infrastructure coordination, testing, safety, logistics, and support.
  • Monitor the performance of experimental, developmental, and/or operational systems during demonstrations.
  • Generate daily post-flight mission reports and summaries as well as other detailed formal reports.
  • Participate in and support test program milestones, design reviews, schedule meetings with test participants, liaison with test ranges, etc.
  • Work well in a team environment as well as independently without appreciable direction.


Required Skills

Test and Evaluation. Demonstrated expertise in Department of Defense (DoD) test and evaluation of emerging technologies. Previous experience working directly with a MRTFB across the planning, execution, and reporting aspects of a DoD T&E project. Minimum of 10 years’ experience supporting DoD flight testing of fighter/bomber/attack/rotary wing/UAS aircraft. 

Strong interpersonal skills.  Proven ability to interface internally and externally at all levels, and ability to gain support and buy-in from all levels of leadership. Polished briefing skills with the ability to make effective and persuasive presentations in team building situations. Capability to use the Microsoft Office package to include Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Project. 


Highly resourceful and customer service-oriented individual with a high level of personal integrity and credibility with the customer, representatives across the industry, as well as representatives across the DoD and Services. Develops technical solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.


Ability to represent and articulate MTSI’s core values, including a history of ethical business conduct.


Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, e.g. engineering, mathematics, physics, required. Advanced degree (MS, PhD) preferred.


Minimum of a SECRET clearance


Desired Skills

Flight Test and Evaluation. Previous experience with the flight test and evaluation of unmanned aerial systems, vehicle subsystems performance, mission systems, avionics, weapons, live fire, advanced sensors, counter-UAS technologies, or electronic warfare (EW) systems desired. Previous experience with Operational Test Organizations (AFOTEC, ATEC, MCOTEA, COTF), Urgent Capability Acquisition, and Military Utility Assessments desired.


Department of Defense Test Pilot School graduate preferred.
