As an Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) - Sr. Technical PM with MTSI you will lead research teams through generative, iterative, and evaluative research projects; you should be skilled in leading through every aspect of a project’s lifecycle, including up-front research and discovery, brainstorming, synthesis, prototyping, testing, and quantitative evaluation.  This position will be located in the Crystal City area.


Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:

  • Plan, oversee, and foster the portfolio of projects supporting AI/ML-related efforts.
  • Collaborate and work across internal and external teams to develop concepts that advance the entire project.
  • Communicate highly technical problems and solutions at all levels, from engineers to C-level-equivalent leaders.
  • Explore and understand AI/ML developments and emerging AI-related technologies to understand how the project should adapt and grow over time.
  • Work with researchers and external partners to develop and pursue a vision to ensure AI/ML is safe, reliable, and robust.
  • Build, lead, inspire, and enable a diverse research team to carry out foundational, often novel, research.
  • Work as a trusted, strategic partner with the customer by delivering actionable insights about emerging AI/ML-related technologies as well as with technically-minded external partners. To this end, you will need to be a strong advocate for the role of research for understanding AI safety issues.
  • Knowledgeable of core AI principles and electro-mechanical concepts, but must also be creative and anticipate future research needs.
  • Ability to turn qualitative insights into technical research efforts.


  • 7+ years' of relevant experience’ experience with 5 years' experience within technical program management.
  • Proven experience developing or strong technical understanding of AI/ML (primarily neural networks).
  • Experience using a creative problem-solving process such as Design Thinking.
  • Excellent spoken, written, and interpersonal skills.


  • Technical knowledge across a range of fields, including system integration, sensors, communication methods, and various data modalities.
  • Experience initiating, planning, and delivering medium to large cross-functional, multi-year initiatives.
  • Experience seeking and developing long-term partnerships with key research and industry leaders.
  • Ability to think strategically in a highly entrepreneurial and ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to use qualitative and quantitative insight to inform decisions and project directions.

Minimum Educational Requirements:

  • Masters degree in computer engineering, mathematics, physics, or other quantitative fields with minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Top Secret, SCI Eligible; SAP experience within last 5 years or SCI in lieu of.
