Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Systems Security Engineer to join our team.  You will provide security engineering, assessment, and weapon systems security oversight activities that support complex weapon systems. 


MTSI is seeking a Systems Security Engineer who will provide security engineering expertise and cybersecurity support to Department of Defense customers.  This will include review and assessment of a wide range of complex weapon systems to identify the level of mission and technical risk inherent in the current cyber security posture, as well as appropriate mitigations to manage that risk.  Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. 


Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with security policies and procedures
  • Generate and maintain required IS security documentation including Systems Security Plans (SSP), Information Assurance Standard Operating Procedures (IA SOP), Continuous Monitoring Plans, Security Control Traceability Matrices, Risk Assessments, Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&M), equipment specifications, practices and procedures
  • Maintain day-to-day security posture and continuous monitoring of classified ISs
  • Schedule, perform and maintain records of required IS auditing, patching, maintenance, software/hardware changes, and scanning based on evolving threat/vulnerabilities and customer compliance requirements
  • Develop and conduct test procedures for verification of Certification & Accreditation (C&A), Authorization and Accreditation (A&A), Risk Management Framework (RMF) safeguards to meet customer requirements based upon NISPOM, NISPOM Overprint, JSIG, ICD 503, CNSSI 1253 and related NIST publications
  • Perform testing to evaluate the security posture of ISs by employing various intrusion/attack detections and monitoring tools
  • Evaluate threats and vulnerabilities to determine the need for supplementary safeguards (e.g. architecture, firewall, data flow, network access, etc.)
  • Employ customer-approved procedures for sanitizing and releasing system components and media
  • Assess changes to an IS by performing periodic self-inspections, tests and reviews of the IS program to ensure that systems are operating as authorized/accredited and that conditions have not changed; ensure corrective actions are taken for identified findings and vulnerabilities
  • Be knowledgeable of and comprehend customer security classification guides (SCG) to determine classified system requirements
  • Maintain a working knowledge of IS functions, security policies, technical security safeguards, and operational security measures


  • Candidates should be a motivated self-starter who is able to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment, often with minimal guidance and within rigid timelines
  • Candidates should have outstanding communication skills in conveying complex technical issues and in providing comprehensive written, oral and/or digital products

Education and Experience Requirements:  Bachelor’s required and 5 or more years’ experience (or 3 years' experience and a Master's degree) in one of the following fields of study: 

  • Cyber-security (e.g., cybersecurity, computer science, computer engineering).
  • Engineering field (e.g., aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, electrical engineering)

Certifications (desired):

  • INCOSE Associate, Certified, or Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP, CSEP, ESEP)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Certified Network Engineer (CCNE)
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • CompTIA Security+, CySA+, CASP+, PenTest+
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)

Clearance Requirements:

Active TOP SECRET clearance and eligible for access to both TOP SECRET Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and TOP SECRET Special Access Programs (SAPs)

Travel Requirements:

This position may require overnight travel up to 25% percent of the time. Trip durations may range from overnight to several days.
