Responsibilities

To support MTSI’s RATS group in various programs: Understand small UAS systems and operations. Understand and track system operation limitations and ensure test execution is accomplished within the constraints of vehicle system limitations. The selected candidate must have experience as a Flight Test Engineer and in the following phases of test planning preparation, execution and reporting:

  • Operate various small UAS.
  • Participation in and support of test program design reviews, schedule meetings, liaison with test ranges. Etc.
  • Maturity and professionalism to lead the execution of flight test briefings and missions and oversee a team of discipline engineers.
  • Monitor performance parameters of experimental and operational systems during flights.
  • Provide integrated engineering support for, test planning working groups, test card preparation, and generation of post-flight and formal reports.
  • Must work well in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Position requires willingness to accept changing and evolving roles & responsibilities in support of customers’ requirements and needs.
  • Experience with small UAS is required.
  • Experience as an aircrew member (Pilot, EWO, NAV, etc.) is desired.
  • Experience mentoring more junior FTEs and engineers is desired.
  • Private Pilot license is a plus but not required.
  • Test Pilot Graduate a plus but not required for this mid-to-senior level FTE position
  • Build up new SUAS systems upon delivery
  • Modify new or existing SUAS for test purposes, including airframe (carbon fiber, metal, foam, plastic, wood), mechanical and electrical changes
  • Maintain systems, including repairs due to damage
  • Launch, fly and recover SUAS of all types including rotary wing and fixed wing groups one, two and Three
  • Prep SUAS for shipping, conduct detachments to remote sites for test and demonstration periods; work with test engineers to devise test procedures and document deficiencies.

Qualifications

  • FAA Part 107 airman's certificate required.
  • Five years of experience flying SUAS and 200 hours documented time in any SUAS required
  • RC flying experience required
  • Military experience with SUAS highly desired but not required.
  • Proven leaderships skills able to lead a small team in successful flight testing
  • Knowledge of ARDUPILOT and Pixhawk desired

 

Education Requirements: BS in technical field desired; High School diploma or equivalent required.

Clearance Requirements: Active Secret Clearance is required or Top-Secret security clearance desired.
