This is an unpaid internship for a transitioning military member using the SkillBridge internship program. Candidate will learn all aspects of the daily operations and conduct of the Air National Guard Air Force Reserve Command Test Center (AATC) Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance office. The successful candidate will be offered a preferred interview for a full-time MTSI position at the successful completion of this internship. Candidate will be responsible for learning the development and integration of cutting-edge software and hardware modifications to various intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platforms and systems in support of Operational and Developmental Test events for AATC. Candidate will be trained and learn to research new technologies, plan and conduct test events, and advise government personnel on changes in ISR technology, to include MQ-9, MC-12, and RC-26. Candidate will work directly with the current full-time MTSI ISR engineers, the AATC ISR program manager, various system program offices, and industry vendors to learn to formulate and implement commercial off-the-shelf and developmental improvements to these systems. Candidate will also learn to analyze and report on test events to include developmental and operational tests. Candidate will also learn to be responsible for both conceptual and technical implementation of required software and hardware architecture, along with the efforts of AATC government and various SPO personnel. The successful candidate will learn to provide expertise in the following areas: operational and developmental test planning & execution, test plan formulation, basic aircraft/system data bus architectures to include mil-standard PPD, 1553, & Ethernet; ISR system architectures; national intelligence command infrastructures; data analysis tools. Candidate will gain a firm understanding of the operation and tactical applications of all the above systems and their interfaces with all Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve aircraft and systems. Candidate will operate in multidisciplinary teams of industry, government and military personnel consisting of engineers, analysts, scientists, pilots and other aircrew. Candidate must have a can-do attitude and an open mind to develop new visions for ISR systems integration, avionics, and tactical applications.
Candidate should have at least 5 years experience in operational and developmental test and evaluation; minimum 5 years experience operating/testing pertinent ISR systems (MQ-1, MQ-9, MC-12, RC-26, or similar), strong desire to learn new systems and propose new ideas for ISR systems and design. Candidate should have experience with engineering analysis and design tools and data analysis tools. The candidate must have a strong ability to work in a team environment with demonstrated leadership and customer interface skills. The successful candidate should have good analytic skills and be capable of operating in a multi-tasking environment. The candidate must have strong verbal and written communications skills; a background in special access programs is highly desired. Extensive flight test and evaluation experience to include test plan writing, design of test, test execution, data analysis, and reporting is desired. Candidate must have a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
Graduate of US Test Pilot School and/or USAF Weapons Instructor Course (or equivalent), strong background in data analysis tools design/use and aircraft data bus architecture. Operational and/or test experience with ISR platforms. Experience with ISR platform sensors operation.
B.S. degree is required, preferably in technical area such as aeronautical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science. Masters degree in a technical discipline is desired.
